JAKARTA--The United States has lifted a travel warning for Indonesia issued more than seven years ago, saying there had been "objective improvements" in the security situation, the US embassy announced.
The warning had been in effect since November 2000, following a series of bombings in the Indonesian capital Jakarta.
"The US Department of State has lifted its travel warning for Indonesia after determining the security climate in the country no longer warrants such a warning," the embassy said, adding that the move went into effect on Friday.
"The US has lifted the warning due to objective improvements made by Indonesia in its current security situation."
Indonesian officials could not be immediately reached for comment on Sunday.
