ILOILO CITY, Iloilo, Philippines -- Around 50 policemen of Boracay Island and Aklan will undergo a US-sponsored special training on criminal investigation.
The five-week training, which will start on November 9 and last until December 18 will be held at the Tourism and Training Center in the capital town of Kalibo in Aklan and at the Casa Pilar Beach Resort on Boracay Island.
The policemen participating in the training will come from various units of the Aklan Provincial Police Office, according to Senior Supt. Epifanio Bragais Jr., Aklan police director.
Bragais, in a telephone interview on Sunday, said the training was part of the program of the US Department of Justice-International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (US-DOJ ICITAP) and the PNP's Integrated Transformation Program.
Three instructors from the APPO will assist the US trainers in the program that aims to strengthen the law enforcement capabilities of police units and help improve the services of the local police.
Chief Supt. Isagani Cuevas, Western Visayas police director, said in a separate telephone interview that the police units in Kalibo and Boracay were among the "10 Model Police Stations" of the PNP that were identified as beneficiaries (ICITAP).
The policemen will undergo courses on narcotics interdiction, crime scene photography, technical writing and public speaking, human rights, executive development and leadership and restorative justice and juvenile justice.
Bragais said the training would help improve the capability of the police force in addressing the fast growing need of Aklan and Boracay Island because of the booming tourism industry.
