PADADA, Davao del Sur —More than 20 people fled a village here after a water spout destroyed five houses shortly before Thursday midnight.
Brachel Guererro, municipal administrator, said residents of Sitio (sub-village) Balon in Barangay (village) San Isidro were roused from their sleep when strong winds lashed the neighborhood past 11 p.m.
Jolito Comahig, 30, one of those who fled, said the strong wind brought by the water spout tore off their roof.
Eustiquio Lumagbas, 70, said his neighbors were luckier. He said the wind lifted his house at least 30 meters from the ground and tore it to pieces.
The flying debris hit some residents, causing minor injuries, according to officials.
Guerrero said the local government has distributed food and relief assistance to the affected families.
