MANILA, Philippines—A 19-year old suspect detained in Aklan province on charges of car theft escaped his detention cell before dawn Sunday, police said on Monday.
The suspect was identified as Merwin Pelayo who was detained at the Aklan Rehabilitation Center in Nalook village, Kalibo town, a report from Western Visayas police said.
Initial investigation revealed that Pelayo escaped some time between 4:30 a.m. and 4:45 a.m. He was last seen fleeing on board a Honda motorcycle.
Police are now searching for the fugitive.
