MANILA, Philippines -- The presidential communications group?s dialog with media organizations has yielded four measures that could be adopted in consensus by the government and the media in future crisis situations.
These measures include the definition of a safety zone or an exclusion zone where media and the public would be kept out of during the crisis; the non-interference of media in the crisis such as acting as hostage negotiators; the possibility of restraining live coverage of troop movement; and the designation of a crisis spokesperson.
Communications Operations Secretary Herminio Coloma said media organizations preferred that such measures be implemented as a matter of consensus and self-regulation on the part of the media.
Coloma reiterated President Beningo Aquino?s position against prior restraint on the media by the government.
