MANILA, Philippines -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo Monday condoled with the families of victims in Sunday's landslide in Compostela Valley.

Deputy presidential spokesperson Anthony Golez Jr., said Arroyo has directed the National Disaster Coordinating Council to make sure the police and the military were assisting the local disaster coordinating council in efforts to locate and rescue missing landslide victims.

Golez also said Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro has ordered the release of rice assistance to families in the evacuation centers.

Teodoro also asked the services of the Department of Health and Department of Social Welfare and Development be given to the area to help families cope with the tragic incident.
