MANILA, Philippines?A man was killed by a police officer, allegedly after a heated altercation over traffic in Pasay City early morning of Christmas Day.
Police Officer 3 Ronaldo David of the Pasay investigation unit said victim Richard Mangunay of G. Villanueva Street was declared dead on arrival at the Pasay City General Hospital after the 1:45 a.m. shooting near his home.
The suspect, Police Officer 3 Jose Salazar of the Southern Police District, surrendered to police.
David said Mangunay was drinking with his friends on the sidewalk when Salazar accosted them for the traffic jam caused by another friend, whose parked vehicle was blocking the cop?s way.
A heated argument ensued, but both camps had different accounts as to how the shooting occurred.
Salazar was detained at the Pasay police station and will be charged with homicide for Mangunay's death.
