MANILA, Philippines -- The search for road rage slaying suspect Jason Ivler, who has eluded the police since Nov. 18, has gone online.
A police team has been assigned to search the Internet, read blogs and enter social networking sites to get leads on the whereabouts of the fugitive.
Ivler, an American citizen and the stepson of an Asian Bank economist, was charged with killing Renato Victor Ebarle Jr., son of Presidential Chief of Staff Undersecretary Renato Ebarle Sr., during a traffic altercation in Quezon City on Nov. 18.
Witnesses said the younger Ebarle?s vehicle nearly collided with Ivler?s. The latter then blocked the victim?s path, got out of his vehicle and shot him before escaping.
Chief Insp. Benjamin Elenzano of the Quezon City Police District?s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, said the search for Ivler, whose capture carried a P1 million reward for tipsters, would continue even during the holidays.
?Again, there will be no letup in our search and the use of the Internet will widen our search for him,? he said.
He added that they were monitoring the social networking accounts of people close to Ivler.
?We believe he is in touch with people close to him and he uses the Internet to talk to them,? Elenzano said.
The police official also said they were waiting for the case against Ivler to be elevated to a trial court so that they could apply for a search warrant for several houses where he is believed to be hiding.
The police recently raided two houses at Blue Ridge A subdivision in Quezon City but did not find the fugitive.
Ivler has an outstanding warrant of arrest for his involvement in the death of another Malacañang official, Nestor Ponce, during a traffic accident in 2004.
