TACLOBAN CITY — The temperature in this city of Leyte province was searing hot on Tuesday, April 30, as the state weather bureau reported heat indices reaching as high as 47 degrees Celsius (°C).

With the intense heat experienced by the city, its health office reminded the residents to take proper precautions to avoid any ill effects of the hot temperature.

Pagasa reported that the city’s heat indices ranged from 43°C at noon and 44°C by 1 p.m.

However, it also reported a heat index of 47°C at 11 a.m., the highest so far recorded in Tacloban City, home to more than 250,000 people.

Dr. Gloria Fabrigas, city health assistant officer, reminded its residents to take the necessary precautions.

“Ensure that we are well hydrated. Do not go out between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and wear protective gear like an umbrella and/or apply sunscreen,” she said.

Fabrigas also advised people to cool down one’s body temperature before taking a bath.

“And take a daily dose of Vitamin C,” she added.
