MANILA, Philippines?A Quezon City police officer shot dead a fellow lawman and injured a security guard in Caloocan City early Sunday morning.

Police Officer 2 Rex Azusano, 31, of the Caloocan City Police Tactical Operations Center, died instantly after he was shot at least seven times by Police Officer 2 Stephen Hernandez during a commotion on MacArthur Highway.

Azusano's companion, John Schmidt, a security guard, was wounded and rushed to the MCU Hospital.

The suspect, Hernandez, reportedly sustained a gunshot wound in the thigh, the police said.

Based on a report by Police Officer 2 Felipe Woo, Azusano and Schmidt were riding a motorcycle on their way home when they chanced upon a commotion near the Majesty Sauna Parlor.

Woo said they saw Hernandez ?creating trouble? or raising a ruckus in the area, prompting Azusano to park his vehicle and pacify the policeman.

Azusano introduced himself as a police officer but Hernandez suddenly fired at him several times. Schmidt was also wounded on the back.

The suspect also sustained a wound but it was not immediately clear who shot him. He fled the scene afterward. The police later learned he was taken to the Quezon City General Hospital for treatment of his wound.

But a desk officer in the Caloocan police station said the suspect transferred to the Quirino Memorial Medical Center against the doctors' orders upon learning that the Caloocan City were already investigating his case.
