MANILA, Philippines—A 40-year-old man was killed in a knife duel on an argument over a television set with his neighbor late Sunday night in Manila.
Jorge Oliveros, of 1663 Interior 30, F. Varona Street in Tondo, was pronounced dead on arrival by attending doctors at the Mary Johnston Hospital from two stab wounds in the chest.
Manila Police District (MPD) operatives have fanned out to arrest his alleged killer, 52-year-old fish vendor Bernabe Galito, who fled after the duel.
PO2 Crispino Ocampo of the MPD homicide section said the killing happened at around 10:50 p.m., Sunday, in front of Oliveros’ home.
Ocampo revealed that before the duel, Oliveros had gone over to Galito’s house to watch television and was on his way home when the latter chased after him.
The case investigator pointed out that Galito had apparently been irked that Oliveros watched TV at his home and an argument ensued, which resulted in a melee where both men drew fan knives.
Galito was able to stab Oliveros twice in the chest before fleeing, leaving his foe bleeding on the pavement.
Homicide section operatives are conducting follow-up operations for the arrest of the suspect.
