MANILA, Philippines -- Lingayen Archbishop Oscar Cruz said he has not received any warrant of arrest from the Manila regional trial court but said that he would consult with his lawyer on what steps to take.
In a phone interview on Tuesday, Cruz said he would have to wait for the arrest warrant but was in constant touch with his lawyer, Estelito Mendoza.
As of posting time, Cruz said he has not determined yet if he would post the P10,000 bail, but laughed it off saying, “Ang mura naman [It’s cheap]. I thought I was worth more than that,” he said.
Cruz is the subject of a libel case filed by employees of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR) whom he allegedly labeled GROs or guest relations officers.
Although the case was dismissed by the Manila prosecutor’s office, Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez reversed the decision and ordered that a libel suit be filed against the prelate.
