Aquino asked: Is renovated Naia 1 still world’s worst airport?

Will the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) Terminal 1 finally shed its image as the worst airport in the world?

After visiting the terminal on Wednesday, a smiling President Benigno Aquino III said it definitely looked different.

“This is my first time to go back here (after the renovations),” he said during an ambush interview at the airport. “Pero sa maayos na pagpaplano, ang laking difference. Parang ibang airport itong napasukan ko (But with proper planning, there has been major changes. It seems like I entered a different airport).”

Aquino said that while there are still a lot of improvements to be made, the government remains on schedule.

Asked if he thinks it is still the worst airport in the world, the President simply said it is up to media to promote it.

“Of course we are imperfect beings, we can always strive for perfection,” he said.

Nevertheless, he said the repairs and retrofitting will help a lot in making sure that tourists will have “more fun in the Philippines.”

Aquino visited Naia Terminal 1 and 3 as part of his annual inspection of passenger terminals during Holy Week.

Naia I has long been dubbed the worst airport in the world because of its poor facilities. IDL
