MANILA, Philippines (Updated) — Amid “dangerous” forecast heat indexes, numerous local governments suspended in-person classes on Friday, April 26.

According to the state weather bureau, high heat indexes exceeding 42 degrees Celsius may cause heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke during continued exposure.

Metro Manila

  • Manila – all levels (both public and private)
  • Las Piñas City – all levels (both public and private)
  • Parañaque City – all levels (both public and private)
  • Mandaluyong City – preschool to senior high school (both public and private)
  • Malabon City – all levels (public only)
  • Caloocan City – all levels (both public and private)
  • Quezon City – all levels (public only)
  • Pateros – all levels (both public and private)
  • Muntinlupa City – preschool to senior high school (public only)
  • Pasay City – all levels )both public and private)
  • Malabon City – all levels (public only)
  • Navotas City – all levels (both public and private)
  • San Juan City – all levels (both public and private)

No class suspensions were announced in Marikina City, Makati City, and Taguig City.

In Valenzuela City, classes automatically revert to online classes once the heat index reaches 42 degrees Celsius, according to Mayor Wes Gatchalian.

Calabarzon

  • General Trias City, Cavite – all levels (both public and private)
  • Carmona City, Cavite – all levels (both public and private)
  • Imus City, Cavite – all levels (both public and private)
  • Bacoor, Cavite – all levels (both public and private)
  • Tanza, Cavite – preschool to senior (public only)
  • Kawit, Cavite – all levels (both public and private)
  • Trece Martires City, Cavite – all levels (both public and private)
  • Biñan, Laguna – all levels (both public and private)
  • San Pedro, Laguna – all levels (both public and private)
  • Sta. Rosa City, Laguna – all levels (public and private)
  • Cardona, Rizal – All levels (public and private)
  • General Mariano Alvarez, Cavite – all levels, both public and private schools

Cagayan Valley

Heat index measures the level of discomfort an average person experiences due to the combined effects of the temperature and air humidity.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration declared the start of the summer season in March.
