Over 1T join nutri-fit walk in Dumaguete

MORE than a thousand students and school officials participated in the Nutri-Fit Walk Sunday around Dumaguete City to highlight the Nutrition Month celebration.

Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria led the activity to show support in addressing hunger issues and actions to mitigate hunger and malnutrition in the city.

This year’s Nutrition Month theme focuses on “Gutom at Malnutrisyon, Sama-Sama Nating Wakasan.”

During the nutrition-walk program, the City Nutrition Council awarded Dumaguete City High School and Silliman University as the biggest contingent-school category; City Engineers Office and Barangay Uno Tinago for biggest contingent-office category.

Awarded for biggest contingent-organizations were Silliman University Medical Technology Society (School), Kalipi ng Pilipinas (Civic), Federation of the Senior Citizens (People’s Organization).

Other highlights during the month of July include a Nutrition Caravan today and on July 16 and 18; a Well-Baby Contest on July 19; Inter-High School Oratorical Contest on July 26; Food Fair (Inter-Barangay Booth Contest, Cooking Contest), Day Care Nutrition Corner Contest and Healthy Blood Pressure forum on July 25 and a Day Care School Garden Contest on July 26.

Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria, in his message, thanked the crowd for joining the yearly nutri-fit walk headed by the City Nutrition Council, saying the city government is supportive of the nutrition programs to end hunger.
