Montilla, Viernes power Cafe France to big win in D League

MAC MONTILLA and Jeff Viernes combined for 46 points as Café France logged their second straight win, this time at the expense of the Big Chill, 71-61, yesterday in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at the University of Asia gym.

Montilla had 25 points while Viernes added 21 as the Bakers turned the game around in the second half, where the former got his game going with six of 12 shooting from the field, including five three-point bombs.

He was unstoppable in the third scoring 12 points including three triples as Café France outscored Big Chill, 21-12, in the period.

Montilla’s 3-pointer with a minute left in the third gave Café France the lead for good, 51-49.

With a 2-3 (win-loss) mark, the Bakers stayed in contention for a quarterfinal spot. It was tough loss for the Big Chill, which led by 10 several times in the first half but struggled with their offense in the second half./Correspondent Jonas Panerio
