19 Visayas jocks bag MOA awards in 3rd Milo Finals
Linggayen, Pangasinan — Team Visayas did not only bag the overall championship of the just-concluded 3rd Milo Little Olympics National Finals, here. It also has the most number of “Most Outstanding Athletes” awardees underscoring its dominance of the multi-sports meet for basic education athletes.
From last year’s measly five MOA awardees, the Bisdaks won 19 this year dislodging NCR –last year’s topnotcher – which has 17 individual winners this year. Mindanao and Luzon both have three awardees.
University of Cebu’s Roy Villahermosa who swept the hurdles events bagged the MOA for secondary boys in athletics while badminton players from Southwestern University and Banilad Elementary School namely Ryan Jay Doromal and Tricia Merced Opon were also awarded MOAs.
Visayas failed to have winners from chess and gymnastics owing to its poor performance in said events but rebounded by sweeping the football honors courtesy of Don Bosco Technical College’s Valentino Calvo (secondary) and Glen Thomas Ramos (elementary).
Visayas also made a clean sweep of the four volleyball MOAs through Gwyndharrel Guy of Colegio Del Santo Nino (elem. boys), Willamae Ortega of Catmon Central School (elem. girls), Kevin Labay of Abellana National School (secondary boys) and Gretchel Soltones of Pajo National High School (secondary girls).
University of San Jose Recoletos’ (USJR) word wizards Chelsea Canizares, Viccel John Libradilla, Nathallie Cabaluna and Derold Nick Dampios were also awarded MOAs after dominating the event.
Article continues after this advertisementRonald Navarro of Catmon Central school won the MOA for Sipa while table netters Sherlyn Love Gabisay of Severo Duterte Memorial Elementary School and UC’s Dannel Jay Tormis were the top athletes in elementary girls and secondary boys, respectively.
Bright Academy’s Allyssa Mae Bornia, University of San Carlos’ Arthur Craig Pantino and Fritz Satera of USC also won MOAs for lawn tennis.
