MANILA, Philippines – Airport and police authorities tightened security at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 for the expected arrival of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who will again attempt to leave the country Friday afternoon.

Some policemen were seen armed with shields.

According to terminal manager Dante Basanta, the additional security at the airport is for crowd control to prevent a repeat of what happened last Tuesday when the Arroyo and husband Jose Miguel attempted to leave for Singapore.
