Soldiers recover guns, bombs after gunfight
DIGOS CITY — Soldiers recovered at least nine high-powered firearms, ammunition and an improvised explosive device after a brief gunfight with motorcycle-riding men, the military said on Sunday.
Lt. China Celina Castro, spokesperson for the Army’s 73rd Infantry Battalion, said soldiers manning a checkpoint in the village of Tacul in Magsaysay, Davao del Sur, were trying to flag down men on two motorcycles for routine inspection.
But the gunmen opened fire, triggering a 10-minute gunfight.
Soldiers later found the motorcycles and firearms abandoned near a cliff. —Eldie Aguirre
