Senator Antonio Trillanes IV brushed off on Wednesday as pure “drama” Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte’s threat to run for Senate if critics would continue to annoy her.

“Gusto naman niyang (Sara) tumakbo e, tumakbo na lang siya. Wala ng dramahan kasi sanay sila sa dramahan e —na hindi tatakbo. Ganun din naman ‘yung tatay niya ‘di ba?” Trillanes told reporters.

(She wants to run; she should just run. No more drama because she’s used to the drama of saying she won’t run. Her father is like that too, right?)

He was apparently referring to President Rodrigo Duterte’s previous pronouncements that he would not seek the presidency but ran anyway in the May 2016 elections.

Trillanes, a known critic of the Dutertes, was initially coy when sought for comment on Sara’s inclusion in a Social Weather Station survey where she reportedly placed 9th in the top 12 potential contenders in the 2019 senatorial race.

“Hindi ko siya sinusubaybayan (I’m not following her),” the senator said.

But when pressed, Trillanes said: “E ‘di congratulations.”

Reacting to her standing in the reported survey, Sara said: “Just don’t let the enemies of PRD (President Rodrigo Duterte) annoy me, then my slot should become available to all the yellows.”

Trillanes also branded as another drama and gimmickry the resignation of presidential son Paolo Duterte as vice mayor of Davao City.

“E basta sa akin lahat ‘yan mga drama ‘yan, mga gimik ‘yan. Walang totoo d’yan so malalaman niyo lang siguro in the coming weeks kung bakit pala nag-resign,” Trillanes said.

(In my opinion, all of that is just drama and gimmicks. All of it isn’t real so you will just know in the coming weeks why he resigned.)

On Christmas Day last year, the presidential son pulled a surprise when he announced his resignation, citing among others recent “unfortunate events” in his life involving his failed marriage with first wife, Lovelie. /je
