South Cotabato cop killed by riding-in-tandem gunmen

KORONADAL CITY – Unidentified men riding in tandem on Thursday shot dead a police officer who was heading to the Central Mindanao Police Office in Gen. Santos City to follow-up his promotion.

PO2 Charlie Liva of the police office of Surallah, South Cotabato was driving a motorcycle and was passing by Barangay Polunuling in Tupi around 12 noon when attacked.

Senior Supt. Franklin Alvero, the South Cotabato police director, said Liva died there and then.

The gunmen quickly fled.

Alvero said responding police officers from the Tupi police recovered two empty shells for cal .45 pistol from the spot where Liva was gunned down.

He said the motive of the perpetrators remained undetermined. /je
