SAN PEDRO CITY — A suspected drug pusher was killed during a police operation in Alfonso town in Cavite on Thursday evening, police said on Friday.

The slain suspect Zosimo Rosanes, a resident of the nearby town of Indang, was killed after he fired at policemen about to serve a search warrant on another drug suspect, Hernando Peji, in Barangay Poblacion 2 around 7:35 p.m., Alfonso police chief Chief Inspector Alexy Sonido said in a phone interview.

“As the team approached (Peji’s home), someone opened fire (prompting authorities to retaliate),” he said.

It turned out that the armed suspect was Rosanes, who happened to be a “friend” of Peji. Rosanes was killed on site.

Sonido said they recognized Rosanes from his police records of illegal drug trafficking and killings in Indang. He said Rosanes was also tagged as Indang’s top wanted person.

Police arrested Peji and recovered a still undetermined amount of illegal drugs from his home, Sonido added.  JE/rga
