Meralco rates to go up this February, March

/ 04:52 PM February 08, 2017

Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) is set to increase its power rates in February and March.

The electric company did not confirm the amount of the hike yet, but it may go up to P1.44 per kilowatt-hour, Radyo Inquirer reported.

According to Meralco, the power rate hike in February is due to the increase of prices in petroleum, and the weakening of Philippine peso against dollars.

Meanwhile, the hike in March is due to the Malampaya gas-to-power maintenance. The Department of Energy last year warned consumers of an estimated P1 per kilowatt-hour increase.
