Cops seize 20 guns from man in Masbate port
LEGAZPI CITY, Albay — Police arrested a man at the port of Masbate City on Wednesday for transporting 20 unlicensed .45 cal. pistols, reports said.
A report quoting SPO1 Zandro Cabintoy, public information officer of the Masbate provincial police, said the guns were seized from Celso Monleon, 59, a resident of Borbon town in Cebu province, after he failed to present documents for the transport of the firearms.
Cabintoy said policemen found three small boxes which were wrapped in packing tape inside Monleon’s bag during a mandatory check at the gates of the Masbate port.
Cabintoy said initial investigation showed Monleon was on his way to Nueva Ecija province.
The report said Senior Supt. Jerry Bearis, acting Masbate provincial police director, has ordered an investigation to establish the identity of the guns’ recipient and where the guns were supposed to be delivered.
He said Monleon would face charges for violating Republic Act No. 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act). SFM/rga
