Vice Mayor Duterte in Davao blast site, urges public to go home

DAVAO CITY — Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte urged the public to go home following an explosion that struck the crowded night market on Roxas Boulevard here on Friday night.

The Inquirer saw at least three bodies sprawled on the street.

The number of casualties could still not be determined.

The City Information Office (CIO) said the explosion “left a number of people dead and several others wounded.”

Vice Mayor Duterte, who rushed to the blast site, “asked the public to go home and bars to close down,” the CIO said on its Facebook page.

As of this writing, the victims are still being rushed to hospitals.

Hundreds of people go to the night market which features street food, massage and rows of ukay-ukay stalls.

The explosion happened some 100 meters away from the Ateneo de Davao University.
