Late last May, outgoing Vice President Jejomar Binay wrote to his successor Vice President-elect Leni Robredo to give her his “sincerest congratulations.”

In his letter dated May 31, 2016, Binay said he was looking forward to personally meet Robredo, whom he believes will continue to be “an instrument for social justice.”

Binay wrote: “I look forward to personally meeting you. For the past six years, and despite its modest budget, the OVP has extended assistance to thousands of poor and marginalized Filipinos, including our brothers and sisters working abroad.”

“I am confident that with you as the next Vice President, the OVP will continue to be an instrument for social justice. Again, my sincerest congratulations,” he said.

Binay also told Robredo, the running mate of defeated presidential candidate and his political nemesis Mar Roxas, that he had instructed Undersecretary Benjamin Martinez to discuss the transition with Robredo’s team.

On Wednesday night, Robredo’s eldest daughter Aika posted the letter on Twitter and thanked Binay for being “so gracious.” IDL/rga
