Trillanes concedes defeat in VP race

Senator Antonio Trillanes has conceded defeat in the vice presidential race.

“As our countrymen await the final victor, I hereby concede defeat in the vice-presidential race,” Trillanes said in a statement on Tuesday.

“I humbly submit to the will of the people for they are sovereign in our democracy. May God bless our country,” he added.

The senator, whose term will end in  2019, was among  six candidates who ran for vice president.

Partial and unofficial results of the Commission on Elections Transparency Server showed that Trillanes was trailing other candidates.

The initial results showed Camarines Sur Representative Leni Robredo leading, closely followed by Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

Senators Alan Cayetano and Francis “Chiz” Escudero ranked third and fourth, respectively, followed by Trillanes and Senator Gringo Honasan.

Cayetano and Escudero have also accepted their defeat. CDG/rga
