Rivals tied for Bocaue mayoralty post; to draw lots

The Municipal Board of Canvassers in Bocaue, Bulacan, will  draw lots to break the tie between two contending candidates for mayor.

Kuya Jim Valerio and Joni JJV Villanueva each received 16,694 votes in last Monday’s election.

In a notice dated May 10, the two candidates were told to appear before the board for the drawing of lots to break the tie.

Drawing of lots to break a tie is pursuant to Commission on Elections (Comelec) resolution no. 10083 or the General Instruction for the Board of Canvassers on the Consolidation/Canvass and Transmission of Votes specifically Section 11, Letter D-II.

The resolution states that “the Board shall, after recording in its minutes the fact of having candidates receiving the same number of votes for the position, immediately notified the said candidates to appear before the Board for drawing of lots to break the tie.”/rga
