Stop fooling people with empty promises, Roxas tells Duterte

/ 04:40 PM April 13, 2016

Liberal Party standard-bearer Mar Roxas on Wednesday went on the offensive against rival Rodrigo Duterte and called his plans for the country “ampaw (hollow)” as he told him to stop deceiving the people.

“Huwag mo kaming lokohin, Duterte. Huwag mo kaming linlangin. Puros ampaw ang sinasabi mo. Matapang ka lang sa salita,” Roxas said in a press conference in Alubjid, Misamis Oriental.

Roxas criticized the Davao City mayor’s actions and promises to the people as he underscored the following points: Duterte’s unclear plan on how to solve the country’s crime and drug problem in six months; his “foolish” stand on the West Philippine Sea dispute with China; his habit of cursing government officials and women, and his use of terms describing lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders (LGBT) to attack his rivals.

“Hindi mo nga nagawa sa sarili mong lungsod, ipapangako mo sa buong sambayanang Pilipino na magagawa mo ito sa loob ng tatlo hanggang anim na buwan? Ampaw ka,” said Roxas.

Explaining in detail his first point, Roxas again lectured Duterte on the crime statistics provided by the Philippine National Police, which showed that Davao City was the fourth among cities with the highest number of index crimes.

He said the number of murder cases in Davao City from 2010 to 2015 reached 1,032, the highest number in the country.

“Kaya talagang wala siyang sagot eh. Ampaw. Ito ‘yung mga istatistika o … Ang bilang ng rape sa Davao, 2010 to 2015, 843. Pumapangalawa sa buong bansa sa rape ang Davao City. Ang bilang ng homicide, patay na tao din ‘yan, sa Davao ay 245. Pumapangatlo sa buong bansa ang bilang ng Davao. Robbery, 7,001. Pumapang-apat sa buong bansa. Physical injury, 9,278, also number four sa ating buong bansa. Total index crimes, 37,684,” Roxas said.

The numbers were not just made up, Roxas said, reiterating that his statistics came from police records. RC
