/ 07:06 AM May 20, 2011

THREE siblings saved their nine-month-old brother from their burning house in sitio Upper, barangay Tawason, Mandaue City yesterday afternoon.
The fire razed seven houses and damaged P260,000 in property, said said FO2 Roy Garcia.

Garcia said the fire was caused by an unattended lighted mosquito coil in the children’s house.

When the fire broke out at 2:25 p.m., Bernard Christopher, 9; Bernadet, 8; and Betchel Salvador, 6, immediately ran out of their house with their infant brother.
Cresencio Salvador, father of the four children, said they usually light mosquito coil even at daytime to ward off insects s since their house was near a swamp.
Cresencio, a jeepney driver, said he and his wife were away when the fire broke out.

A house owned by a Cebu city policeman was also destroyed in the fire.

Heavy traffic in Mandaue delayed the arrival of firetrucks at the fire scene, said Garcia. /REPORTER JUCELL MARIE P. CUYOS
