/ 07:08 AM May 20, 2011

BUSINESS owners in Cebu City may be required to equip their buildings with security cameras as a condition for the approval or renewal of their business permits.

This is being practiced already in Quezon City and Manila, said Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama.

“Close-circuit TV cameras is an important revision,” said Rama, who discussed the plan in a meeting with business owners.

The proposal still needs to be deliberated by the City Council, which will have to enact an ordinance to make this a legal requirement.

Cebu City Councilor Sisinio Andales, who chairs the committee on labor and employment, said the plan could be beneficial since it will help police solve crimes or deter the occurence of crimes. CORRESPONDENT FATRICK R. TABADA
