AFP wants MILF training camp in Iligan to be dismantled
MANILA, Philippines— The military has formally recommended the dismantling of a training camp of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front in Iligan City.
The recommendation filed the other day was due to a complaint lodged before the Iligan City council by Datu Lanting Ko Limunsudan or Higaonon chieftain, Deodato S. Abugan Sr., Armed Forces Public Affairs Office chief Lieutenant Colonel Harold Cabunoc said on Thursday.
The MILF fighters under Abdul Sango Amoran of the 305th Guerilla Unit supposedly recruited 85 Higaonon tribesmen and Maranaws from Bukidnon and brought to the camp from May 16 to May 31 last year.
The recommendation was filed by Colonel Gilbert Gapay, commanding officer of Army’s 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade, to the government’s Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities.
“It causes alarm to the people. It threatens the people themselves, armed personalities are roaming the area,” Gapay said.
The training camp was located at the boundary of Iligan and Lanao del Sur.
