Bilibid inmates surrender hundreds of mobile phones, cache of firearms

MANILA, Philippines—Over 300 cellular phones, firearms, hundreds of deadly weapons and drug paraphernalia were surrendered by inmates from the Maximum Security Compound of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).
Inmates surrendered the items by dropping them in eight boxes placed in the four quadrants of the Maximum Security Compound.
The boxes were opened Monday in time for the third inspection conducted by Justice Secretary Leila De Lima.
The boxes contained the following:

* 23 improvised water pipes
* 28 improvised totters
* 4 yok
* 8 aluminum foil
* 9 lighters
* 4 bottled glasses
Improvised deadly weapons
* 242 fan knives
* 21 long-bladed weapons
* 29 assorted bladed weapons
Gadgets
* 341 cellular phones
* 16 cellular phone chargers
* 7 earphones
* 1 pocket wifi
* 1 booster antenna
Firearms
* one piece Shotgun – Buddy Guard Model 30 Guage 3 chamber (Armscor)
* caliber 22- ERMA Serial Number 305986 with one-piece magazine
* two pieces caliber 22-Black Widow
* one piece Armscor 9mm with one-piece magazine
* one piece caliber 45 colt with one-piece magazine
* one piece caliber 38 revolver
* one piece UZI automatic pistol 9mm with one-piece magazine
* caliber 380
* 14 sets of improvised shotguns

* .22 caliber – 59 pieces
* 9mm – 22 pieces
* .45 caliber – 11 pieces

* 380 – 7 pieces

Boxes were placed around the Maximum Security Compound after inmates failed to meet the Christmas eve deadline set by Justice Secretary Leila De Lima to surrender illegal and prohibited items smuggled inside the prison facility.
However, Justice Secretary Leila De Lima is still not satisfied with the items surrendered by the inmates.
“I have a gut feel that the gangs still have in their possession several weapons and illegal drugs and that what they surrendered are the weapons that they can no longer use,” De Lima said.
The Justice Chief also issued Department Order 943 creating the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Clean Up Oversight Team.
The Oversight Team was given three to four months to implement the clean up.
