Hostage-taker tells cops he will surrender to kin
MANILA, Philippines–The hostage taking in Quezon City that started Friday morning was still ongoing, police said.
Senior Inspector Maricar Taqueban, Public Information, Officer of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), said the hostage taker, identified as Melvin Medina, said he would only surrender to his relatives in Laguna.
Taqueban complied and said police operatives were now on their way to Laguna to get his relatives.
The police official declined to disclose the identity of Medina’s relatives.
On Friday morning, Medina held hostage two of his relatives inside their house in Baesa, Quezon City.
Medina, who was armed with a bladed weapon according to Taqueban, held hostage Doroteo Gerubin and Marvin Caag around 9 a.m. on Maxima Street in Villa Matilde Subdivision.
