Man charged with raping daughter

MANILA, Philippines–A man has been charged with 31 counts of rape and five counts of acts of lasciviousness in the Quezon City Regional Trial Court for repeatedly abusing his daughter since 2007 when the victim was only 12 years old.

Assistant city prosecutor Mellissa Oco-Dictado recommended the filing of the case against “Ronnie” (not his real name) and set the bail at P12,000 each for three counts of acts of lasciviousness. No bail was recommended for the other two counts of acts of lasciviousness and 31 counts of rape.

The case was referred to the Quezon City RTC Branch 107 this week.

In a complaint-affidavit, the victim said her father sexually abused her when their family was living in a room in her grandmother’s house in Quezon City. She was then in grade school.

The complainant said that whenever she came home from school in the afternoon, her father would be at home while her mother was working. Her father had threatened her not to tell anyone, she added.

When she entered college in March 2012, the victim confided her ordeal to some friends who advised her to tell her mother.

The complainant said that when her mother learned about what she went through, she got angry with her husband who left the house. But after a month, they transferred to a new house and her father moved back in “as if nothing had happened.”

The victim said she got angry and went to live with her grandmother. When the victim learned that her father was also forcing himself on her younger sister, she and her grandmother visited an uncle in Cavite to ask for help in October 2012.

The victim’s uncle accompanied them to Camp Crame in Quezon City and they were referred to the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
