Occasional rains to persist in Metro Manila as ‘Jose’ enhances southwest monsoon

MANILA, Philippines–With the southwest monsoon (Habagat) getting some boost from Typhoon “Jose” (international name: Halong), Metro Manila is expected to be drenched for the remainder of Wednesday, the weather bureau said.

In its bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the southwest monsoon continues to affect Luzon with Metro Manila set to experience occasional rains.

The Ilocos Region and Zambales will experience monsoon rains while Central Luzon will have occasional rains.

Pagasa added that “Jose” was spotted at 840 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes at 11 a.m. Wednesday and trailing a path going north at 15 kilometers per hour.

“Jose” packs maximum sustained winds of 150 kph near the center and gusts of 185 kph.

It is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Thursday morning.
