NBI agent stabbed, robbed of jewelry, gun; bystander shot
MANILA, Philippines—An agent of the National Bureau of Investigation was hurt after trying to fight off three robbers who ganged up on him on Wednesday night in Quezon City.
Aside from Teodoro Guevara, 54, a bystander was also injured by a stray bullet when one of the attackers fired the lawman’s gun.
Supt. Ariel Capocao, the Talipapa police station commander, said Guevara was stabbed in the forearm and chest, while Anthony Pangyarihan was shot in the chest.
Guevara was waiting for a bus near the Caltex gasoline station along EDSA in Balintawak, Barangay Unang Sigaw, when the robbers struck.
An intelligence agent of the NBI, the victim was on his way home at around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday and had just flagged down a bus.
As he climbed up the bus, a man suddenly ran up to him and grabbed his gold necklace worth P70,000.
Article continues after this advertisementGuevara hurriedly got off the bus to get back his jewelry, but was met by two men who lunged at him, stabbing him in the right forearm and chest.
Article continues after this advertisementCapocao said the wounded NBI agent managed to pull out his gun, a Smith and Wesson magnum 357 revolver loaded with seven bullets, but one of the robbers grabbed it from his grasp.
Together, the three robbers crossed to the opposite lane of EDSA, which is under the jurisdiction of the La Loma police station.
Guevara chased the robbers but the one wielding the gun shot at his direction.
The bullet, however, missed, hitting Pangyarihan, a bystander, in the chest.
Capocao said the robbers eventually got away, and the two injured victims were brought to the Quezon City General Hospital for treatment.
