Matta said that Diongco was off-duty and was driving his owner-type jeepney to his rooster farm near the area when he was waylaid by the armed motorcycle-riding men.

The Batasan Hills station commander said that although badly wounded, Diongco was able to get off his vehicle and fire back at the gunmen before he keeled over the pavement and died from multiple bullet wounds.

Matta told the Philippine Daily Inquirer that Diongco, previously a precinct commander of the Batasan Hills police station, could have wounded one of his attackers.

He assured the public that they have been conducting follow-up operations for the arrest of Diongco’s killers.

Relatives of Insp. Rodelio Dionco of the Quezon City Police District are inconsolable as they see his body lying on the road, just meters away from the House of Representatives. The police official was shot by a group of motorcycle-riding men as he was on his way to his rooster farm on IBP Road on Sunday afternoon. GRIG C. MONTEGRANDE
