Low pressure area approaching Mindanao

MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure area is threatening the country’s southern regions, likely bringing cloudy skies and rains to Visayas and Mindanao until the weekend, the state weather bureau said.

The low pressure area is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility on Wednesday, affecting Mindanao and the Visayas but otherwise leaving Luzon undisturbed, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

“The advanced cloud bands of said weather system will bring cloudy skies with scattered light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms over most areas of Mindanao and Visayas,” Pagasa said in an advisory.

“However, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will continue to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with some isolated light rains or isolated thunderstorms,” it added.

As the low pressure area moves closer to Mindanao or the Visayas on Thursday, it will continue to bring cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rain showers and thunderstorms, while the rest of the archipelago will have fair weather conditions with chances of isolated rains over the eastern sections, Pagasa said.

By Saturday, the low pressure area is expected to traverse westward over the Mindanao-Visayas area, continuing to bring scattered light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms, Pagasa said.

Fair weather will persist in Luzon, including Metro Manila, except for isolated afternoon rain showers or thunderstorms, it added.

On Sunday, cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rain showers and thunderstorms will prevail, particularly over Samar and Palawan provinces, Pagasa said.

The rest of the Visayas and Mindanao will be cloudy with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms. Fair weather apart from isolated light rains or thunderstorms is expected over the rest of the country.
