Cold winds to keep blowing–Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines—Cold winds from Siberia continue to blow into Luzon and Eastern Visayas, bringing clouds and light rain over those parts of the country, the weather bureau said.

The northeast monsoon, or hanging amihan, remains the dominant weather system, resulting in generally overcast weather, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Based on the agency’s 24-hour weather outlook, the regions of the Ilocos, Cordillera, Cagayan, Bicol and Eastern Visayas and the provinces of Aurora, Quezon, Marinduque and Romblon will experience cloudy skies with light rains.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon and the Visayas, on the other hand, will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains, Pagasa said.

Mindanao will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds from the northeast will prevail throughout the archipelago and coastal waters will be moderate to rough, Pagasa said.

The weather bureau also issued yesterday an advisory warning fishermen that strong to gale force winds are expected to affect the seaboards of northern, Central and southern Luzon and the Visayas.

Sea conditions will be rough to very rough, with waves reaching heights of 3.4 to 4.5 meters, Pagasa said.

The areas covered by the gale warning are Batanes, the Calayan and Babuyan island groups, Cagayan, Isabela, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Aurora, Zambales, Bataan, Camarines provinces, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon and Quezon, including Polilio island, Samar and Leyte.
