Aboitiz Group raises P161M for Yolanda relief operations

The Aboitiz Group, through its social development arm Aboitiz Foundation, has raised a total of P161 million for Yolanda relief operations.

The group earlier marked a target of P200 million from various corporate and individual sources, making its campaign one of the largest donation drives run by a Philippine conglomerate.

Aboitiz Equity Ventures president and chief executive officer Erramon Aboitiz said a special task force has been created within the Aboitiz Group to consolidate vital resources.

The Aboitiz Group received donations from its various business units such as Aboitiz Foundation, Aboitiz Power, Davao Light, SN Aboitiz Power, and UnionBank of the Philippines, Sharon Cuneta, Aboitiz family members, employees, and individuals through the UShare portal.

The 100 year old company traces its roots in the Visayas where many of its employees come from. The company has offered immediate assistance to employees who may have been affected, or may have family members who were affected by Yolanda.

Aboitiz also encouraged employees to volunteer in the relief efforts.

“Let us draw from our passion to serve and heed this call of action amid this time of crisis,” he said.

The group’s business unit, Visayan Electric Company, has also restored 94 percent of electricity in its franchise area by working round the clock to fix lines and poles damaged by Yolanda.

Sister company Davao Light sent additional manpower to further speed up power restoration.
