5.1 quakes hit Bohol

MANILA, Philippines—Barely recovering from Tuesday’s earthquake, two consecutive 5.1 magnitude struck Bohol Wednesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

In its latest earthquake bulletin, Phivolcs said the first 5.1 magnitude quake occurred at 9:36 a.m with the epicenter located 34 kilometers west of Tagbilaran city in Bohol. It has a depth of 10 kilometers.

More than an hour after, another 5.1 magnitude tremor followed at 10:42 a.m. with a depth of 12 kilometers. Phivolcs located the epicenter 57 kilometers east of Tagbilaran city.

According to the Phivolcs richter magnitude scale, earthquakes with magnitudes 5 to 6 are “earthquakes with moderate strength” and are felt over the wide areas. Some of them cause small local damages near the epicenter.
