Guard stabbed dead in his post

A SECURITY guard was stabbed dead at his  post in barangay Banilad, Cebu City, at dawn yesterday.

Edwardo Rabasa , 27, of sitio Kawayan, barangay Sambag Dos, succumbed to a stab wound in the neck.

Police said Rabasa of Archangel Security and Investigation Agency was guarding an establishment on Gov. Cuenco Avenue when an unidentified assailant attacked him around 4 a.m.

A bystander  told police that he was waiting for a ride home when he heard an unusual sound and traced it to the guard’s location where the wounded Rabasa was slumped on the ground.

The witness said he saw a man leaving the area in haste.

The bystander called paramedics from the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation who tried but failed to revive the guard.

A kitchen knife was recovered at  the crime scene.

MAN NABBED FOR DRUGS

SEVERAL packs of suspected shabu were seized from a man whom police said was involved in selling illegal drugs in barangay Pasil, Cebu City.

At least 50 packs of  white crystalline substance were recovered from Eugene Tortor.  He was arrested after a brief chase with police last Monday afternoon.

Police said a tipster called the City Intelligence Branch (CIB) to report an ongoing drug sale in Pasil.

The caller gave the description of  Noel Tortor and another man.

Acting on the tip, members of the CIB members rushed to Pasil where they  met two men in an alley.

One of the men fit to the description given by the caller.

Upon seeing the policemen, the two men ran  into an alley.

After a brief chase, police collared Eugene and found the suspected drugs and at least P1,000 cash in his possession.

Drug charges will be filed against Eugene today, said police./CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON

ARMED FRAT MEMBER COLLARED

A 27-YEAR-OLD man was arrested after police found him carrying a gun in barangay Basak, Mandaue City, on Monday afternoon.

Police said a .357 revolver with five bullets was recovered from Jasper Sumilhig, who is reportedly a member of the Tau Gamma Fraternity.

Members of the Basak police station went to sitio Tundan around 5 p.m. after receiving a report about  an armed man seen there.

Guided by the informant, police spotted Sumilhig, who tried to avoid the police.

Police stopped the man and frisked him.
