Solon’s kin hurt in Lapu shooting
An anti-crime volunteer and the nephew of ANAD party-list representative Jun Alcover were wounded when they grappled for a gun in barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City, at dawn yesterday.
Juvelli Abejuela, 43, a member of the Barangay Public Safety Officers (BPSO), and Jonald Alcover, 22, of barangay Bulacao, Cebu City, had conflicting accounts about what happened.
Abejuela told police that he and his fellow BPSO member Ernesto Pajugot were at their post when an armed Alcover arrived.
Albejuela said Alcover pointed a gun at him while saying, “Asa imong amigo bai?” (Where’s your friend?)
Albejuela said he parried the gun, which went off, hitting him in the hand.
Albejuela said he and Alcover grappled for the gun when it went off again.

Article continues after this advertisementAbejuela was brought to the Mactan Doctors’ Hospital. Alcover arrived at the hospital hours later with a gunshot wound in the body.
Alcover told police that he was driving his motorcycle when he saw a commotion by the road and stopped to check it.
Alcover said he drove off when bursts of gunfire broke out. Alcover said it was only after arriving home that he noticed that he had a gunshot wound in the body.
His father took him to the hospital.
Police said further investigation will be made to determine who among the two men are telling the truth.
