Effigy of ‘Golden Pig’ arrives at Ayala
MANILA, Philippines — The much-awaited “Golden Baboy” effigy has arrived at Ayala in Makati City for the second Million People March.
At 8 feet tall high and 10 feet long, the effigy is expected to be among the central figures at the anti-pork barrel rally on Friday.
Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) said the “Golden Baboy” was meant to represent the pork barrel as a “false idol being worshiped by politicians.”
Bayan Secretary General Renato Reyes, in a statement, said it was President Benigno Aquino III who was the “biggest hindrance to the abolition of systemic corruption.”
“The Pork Barrel King Aquino…has consistently acted to defend the pork system. He has sought the lifting of the SC TRO (Supreme Court temporary restraining order) on pork barrel funds. He has transformed PDAF (Priority Development Assistance Fund) into itemized pork in the 2014 budget. He has used alleged government savings as his own pork and as an instrument to influence Congress. And he refuses to give up his own lump sum funds,” Reyes said.
