Spillway overflow strands motorists
AT least 80 motorists were stranded after water overflowed into the spillway in sitio Tangub, Barangay Lagtang, Talisay City last Wednesday evening.
Willy Abatayo, QM builder supervisor, said they had to remove the debris clogging the culvert at 6:15 p.m to stop the water from overflowing.
There are five culverts measuring 36 inches in diameter to convey floodwaters from the mountains to the sea.
The spillway is part of the diversion road constructed by QM Builders as they work on a road widening project.
The project covers the stretch of Lagtang-Campo 4 area and is under the authority of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Motorists have complained about landslides as the project got underway.
Article continues after this advertisementCity Councilor Danny Caballero, who inspected the site recently, said the contractor promised to finish the project last Wednesday and was given a September 30 extension.
But the contractor later admitted they were unable to meet the deadline due to rainy weather.
