Over 1,000 schools rescheduling start of classes – DepEd

MANILA, Philippines — Over 1,000 public schools have postponed their opening of classes for the School Year 2024-2025, which was set for Monday, July 29, the Department of Education (DepEd) said.

As of 6:18 p.m. on Saturday, DepEd said that a total of 1,002 schools in Metro Manila, Ilocos region, Central Luzon and Soccsksargen region  will not start classes on Monday.

DepEd specifically said that schools in the cities of Malabon, Pasig, Marikina, and Valenzuela will all open on August 5, 2024.

Meanwhile, two schools in Navotas City, five in the City of Manila, 13 in San Juan City, and 15 in Quezon City will open on August 5.

On Friday, DepEd said that 12,866 schools from the Cordillera Administrative Region, NCR, and Regions 1, 2, 3, 4-A, 4-B, 5, 6, and 8 were affected by torrential rains and flooding triggered by Typhoon Carina and the southwest monsoon (habagat) in the past few days.
