Jail personnel to get allowance back

/ 06:20 AM June 14, 2013

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama has promised to reinstate the P1,000 honorarium for personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) once he starts his second term on July 1.

“As part of my fresh mandate, let them have the reinstatement of their honorarium,” he said.

Outgoing Cebu South District Rep. Tomas Osmeña had cancelled the allowance because of his dissatisfaction on how the city jail was being run during his term as mayor.

The former mayor was unhappy about the alleged proliferation of illegal drugs, food subsidy kickback and favoritism in the jail.

Rama said he is hoping that reinstating the allowance will motivate the BJMP personnel to perform better.

If there enough funds, Rama said he is open to the possibility of increasing the allowances to P2,000—the amount that the Cebu City policemen are getting from the city.
