Farmers to graduate today from ‘Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan’
A HUNDRED farmers from the different barangays in Cebu City will finally graduate after three months of attending the “Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan” training program, which was conducted by Harbest Agribusiness, SM Foundation’s project partner.
The farmers started their training last March at a vacant lot near the Natasha Building in North Reclamation Area, Cebu City.
Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan is a joint undertaking of SM Foundation with the private sector and government agencies.
It provides farmers with more effective ways of producing high yielding fruits and vegetables. The program is like backyard farming, only it is enhanced by new technology to produce better results. It is a 12-step program that teaches farmers seed culture and propagation, irrigation and fertilizer application, among other skills.
The graduation ceremony will be held today at 10 a.m. at the Event Centre in SM City Cebu.
The farmers will have the chance to sell their produce to shoppers at the Event Centre, and will open an opportunity for them to become suppliers.
