League leaders collide today
THE WEEK gets started with an explosive match-up between the PBA D-League’s two top teams as the Blackwater Sports Elite take on the reigning champions, NLEX Road Warriors, today in the Foundation Cup at the Blue Eagle gym.
The Elite, who stands at the top of the league with a 7-1 (win-loss) record, try to snatch up an outright quarterfinal seat with a win against the Road Warriors in their match set for 4 p.m.
The Road Warriors will be no pushovers as they are riding high on a five-game winning streak after starting the tournament with two straight losses.
NLEX struggled early on to cope with the losses of their two men in the middle, Greg Slaughter and Ian Sangalang. But the resilient bunch managed to remedy the situation with a combination of small-ball brilliance and tenacious defense.
In the other games, Fruitas [5-3] and Hog’s Breath [1-7] collide at 10 a.m while EA Regens [4-3] takes on winless Informatics [0-8] at 2 p.m.
The Shakers seek a follow-up to their 106-75 rout of Informatics last Thursday to stay in contention for a playoff position while Team Delta tries to bounce back from a 67-71 loss to the Elite last Tuesday. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
